Comcast earnings highlight NBCUniversal strength ahead of planned split [CNBC]

TL;DR: Comcast reported growth in NBCUniversal’s TV and films businesses, with streaming platform Peacock reaching profitability for the first time since its 2020 launch. Comcast’s broadband unit once again reported customer losses, and revenue was down as its new strategy centered around mobile and broadband deals takes hold. Comcast said earlier this year it would split the cable businesses from the media business, creating two separate publicly traded companies.

Judge Pauses Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger [Variety]

TL;DR: A federal judge extended the temporary restraining order blocking Paramount's $111B acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by another two weeks, pushing any closing past Aug. 17. The delay gives a coalition of 12 state AGs and the WGA more time before a preliminary injunction hearing that could halt the deal further. The European Commission cleared the merger, conditioned on Paramount canceling its film distribution partnership with Universal in Europe within 13 months.

Netflix in Advanced Talks to Close Major Ad Deals [Adweek]

TL;DR: Netflix says it's in advanced negotiations to finalize upfront advertising deals and is on pace to reach $3 billion in ad revenue for 2026, with Q2 revenue of $12.6 billion, up 13% year over year. The company is also pulling back on its bi-annual viewership reporting, and its stock dropped after-hours on a narrowed full-year revenue forecast.

NBCU Ad Spend Soars 55% In Q2, Peacock Posts Profit [MediaPost]

TL;DR: NBCU's Peacock grew 68% to $717 million in ad revenue, and even excluding World Cup results, advertising still improved 24% to $1.7 billion, driven by the World Cup, NBA Playoffs and "Love Island USA." Peacock posted its first-ever profitability with $189 million in EBITDA, and paid subscribers grew 17% to 48 million.

Fox’s Red Seat Ventures, Amazon Strike Programmatic Advertising Partnership [Variety]

TL;DR: Fox Corp.'s Red Seat Ventures struck a partnership with Amazon, letting advertisers buy programmatic inventory from Red Seat's podcast portfolio via Amazon's demand-side platform — following similar Amazon tie-ups with Disney, Roku, and Netflix. Red Seat represents more than 40 creators across true crime, comedy, news, sports, and entertainment, reaching tens of millions of monthly unique consumers.

Amazon's Bezos pushes Prime Video redesign focused on AI [CNBC]

TL;DR: Jeff Bezos pushed Prime Video head Mike Hopkins to overhaul the streaming service so AI is front and center, in a project internally called Lighthouse aimed at showcasing Amazon's massive AI investments. The plans include AI-driven recommendations and personalization, with a final redesign, including a possible homepage overhaul, still being tested.

Amazon Expands Location-Based Interactive Video Ads [MediaPost]

TL;DR: Amazon expanded its location-based video ad format into three new markets — Canada, Mexico, and Brazil — letting advertisers customize store locations, offers, and click-through URLs by state/province and postal code. The format, which launched in the U.S. in October 2025, is a strategic upgrade for cross-border advertisers looking to localize national TV campaigns cheaply.
