‘Judge Judy’ May Be Retiring, But Her Linear TV Run Lives On
After three decades on television, the TV figure known as Judge Judy is putting down the gavel. Judy Sheindlin announced this week that the current season of Judy Justice on Amazon Prime Video will be her last, bringing her on-camera TV career to a close. She’ll also be handing the reins to her son, Adam Levy, who is launching his own courtroom show, Adam’s Law.
But while Sheindlin moved on from linear TV, Judge Judy never really did. The original series ended its 25-season run in 2021, when Sheindlin made the notable jump from traditional television to Amazon Prime Video with Judy Justice. Four years earlier, in 2017, she sold the rights to her massive Judge Judy episode collection to CBS — giving the network a valuable library of programming that it has continued to put to work, right up through today.
Let’s put some numbers to that. According to iSpot data…
Since 2022, Judge Judy reruns have generated roughly 16.8 billion ad impressions across 53,800 national airings and $160 million in estimated ad spend. That's a notable commercial afterlife for a show that hasn't produced a new episode in years.
On CBS in 2026, Judge Judy currently ranks sixth among daytime programs by impressions, with the shows ahead of it all being first-run CBS originals, led by The Price Is Right, The Young and the Restless and Let’s Make a Deal.
While Judge Judy isn't a a total reach powerhouse — averaging roughly 600K impressions per airing, versus 2 million to 3.5 million for some first-run game shows and prime-time programs — its sheer volume of airings makes it a reliable frequency vehicle for advertisers.
Looking just at 2026, the top advertisers skew heavily toward the classic daytime direct-response and CPG/health mix (which has been the case for years, although top advertisers have fluctuated over time). Right now, reach is being led by Qunol (5.53% impressions SOV), Liberty Mutual (4.19%) and LeafFilter (3.51%).
The franchise is still finding new linear homes: OWN began syndicating Judge Judy this year, adding another outlet for the library even if the move hasn't yet translated into a major jump in impressions.
Also worth mentioning: This year specifically, Judge Judy impressions have trended up from June through mid-September. The 2026 summer ramp does not follow previous years, suggesting a continuation of the CBS daytime placement upgrade rather than a summer audience cycle.
The bottom line? Judge Judy has meant dependable, CBS-anchored, cost-efficient daytime frequency for linear advertisers since 2022 — a case study in how a retired franchise stays commercially relevant through syndication.
