Our Newest Report Explains Why Streaming Is Local TV's New Frontier

Local TV is alive and well and getting ready to take on the shift to streaming. What’s more, a study of over 60,000 census-weighted respondents revealed that viewers of all ages and incomes still have heart for local media, local news in particular.

That all augurs well for the local television industry which is poised to take advantage of streaming’s hyperlocal targeting, something we can expect to see in full force during the 2024 election cycle.

Those are just a few of the key findings of our latest TVREV Special Report, Local TV: Perils & Promise In The Age Of Streaming. The 66-page report, like all TVREV reports, is intended as a primer, so that someone who is new to the local broadcast scene and someone who is a longtime veteran can both get something out of it.

To assist, we called in two well-known industry figures, Tim Hanlon of Vertere Group, who shared his deep knowledge of the local broadcast industry and its evolution to digital, and Evan Shapiro of ESHAP, who collaborated with us on a consumer research study, offering his detailed insights into how to interpret the results.

That study, which was conducted by Publishers Clearing House, found that while viewers may be making a move to streaming, they still have a strong desire to see local content and local news.

This bodes well for advertisers looking to reach local audiences, both as a way to supplement their national campaigns or because their audience is local or regional.

The report outlines the changes that are happening in today’s market and offers actionable suggestions on how to best take advantage of them.

It also provides TVREV’s always prescient predictions on the future of local broadcast, most notably the role that MVPDs will play, as they recreate their 24-hour local news channels on streaming.

In-depth interviews with some of the key players reshaping local television help to round out the report. Amagi’s Co-Founder, Srini KA, Premion’s President Tom Cox, Madhive’s SVP Sales, Kristin Wnuk, Cadent’s EVP BD & GM Platform Direct, Tony Yi, and CCR Media’s CEO, Shea Kelly all offer their insights into what they are seeing from the front lines.

But wait, there’s more!
